UK Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray urges people to stop throwing away nicotine-containing disposable vapes as the government prepares to ban teenagers from using them.
In an exclusive interview, she said that people need to realize the importance of proper disposal of these vape devices to avoid negative impacts on the environment. It is also a call after she successfully quit smoking. She uses reusable vapes rather than disposable vapes.
According to data recently released by Material Focus, about five million vapes are discarded in the UK every week. The number shows a significant increase from the previous 1.3 million.
However, many vapes are not properly recycled.
Councilor Cheryl Murray stressed that throwing away vape devices is as undesirable as throwing away cigarettes. Especially considering that disposable vapes are made of plastic and cannot decompose.
“We need to be very conscious of littering. Of course, some of these disposable vapes are made from plastic so they don’t disintegrate.”
According to the latest annual report from the Surfers Against Sewage Dirty Dozen, a large number of vape and e-cigarette products have been found responsible for plastic pollution for the first time. There are 131 items are listing in this category.
Therefore, Councilor Cheryl Murray calls on people to be responsible about throwing away any sort of rubbish, not just vapes. And she emphasizes what we do have to respect the environment in a responsible way.
According to data, in 2022, the proportion of British teenagers under 18 using vaping products will increase to 7%, an increase from 4% in 2020.
In addition, 33% of vape users aged 16-18 dispose their vapes in the trash at school or work. And 8% of this age group told Material Focus that they throw away disposable vapes on the ground.
Mr. Frankie Zhou, CEO of VPFIT says that the recycling issue of disposable vapes has always been a matter of great concern to both vape manufacturers, dealers and the vape users. Some vape manufacturer launches totally recyclable material disposable vapes. Some provide recycle bin in the vape stores.
Here, we also call on the vape user to handle the disposable vapes properly. You can drop them into the recycle bin in the vape stores, or handle them to the recycling agency.
We believe that with the efforts of vape manufacturer, the retailers and the users together, the problem of disposable vapes can be handled well in the future.
