Seven Online Vape Retailers Received FDA Warning Letters

On November 11, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued warning letters to seven online brand vape retailers for selling unauthorized vape products. The warning letters accuse them of selling popular disposable vape products that appeal to young people.

These retailers and brands include Elf Bar, EB Design, Bang, Cali Bars and Lava brands.

The FDA said these warning letters were issued basing on the agency’s ongoing monitoring of multiple surveillance systems.

Aiming to identify vaping products that are popular or attractive among young people.

In addition, the 2023 National Youth Tobacco Survey has released last week. According to the survey, more than half of current teen vape users reported using the disposable vape brand Elf Bar.

Earlier this year, the maker of Elf Bar began selling it under the “EB Design” brand to promote this product. Additionally, through a review of emerging internal data from retail sales data and youth surveys, the FDA identified brands Bang, Cali Bars and Lava as popular or having youth appeal.

Dr. Brian King, director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, said:

“FDAs robust surveillance of the e-cigarette landscape helps us to identify youth-appealing products and to act quickly to protect public health. The goal is to identify, prevent, and reduce these risks to our nation’s youth before they escalate further.

In the past year, more than 40 retailers have get penalties for the sale of illegal vapes.

There are more than 400 warning letters are signed by FDA in the past year. In addition, a series of nationwide inspection efforts are ongoing to these brick-and-mortar retailers. More than 40 vape retailers receives the highest amount money penalties to date.
